Best Junkyard 454 450HP build
Doing this setup for a budget customer haven't hit the junkyard in years for a 454. Always had the good stuff. I'll run him a Solid flat with 10 comp. on E85. Run a Victor Jr or a RPM air gap after a bunch of port work. I'll stage port the heads intake and exhaust and run standard 2.19's.

I had one in my nova for a while do not know the how many miles were on but with a performer rpm intake an a set of headers with 3.31 gears it ran a best of 8.41 in the 1/8 mi. Then I rebuilt it with a 292 cam and 9.7 to 1 compression same intake 3000 stall and 4.10 gears the car ran 7.70 with mufflers and 7.44 with open headers. I ran this combo for several years and was dead reliable never touched it. I shifted a 5500 rpm I still have this motor as a spare.

Low miles hell no. Junkyard just for a core only. All I'll use is the stock crank, heads, block and some of the accessories for power steering. Using an electric water pump and a low mount mini alternater. I'll use forged I beams with srp flat tops. Then balance. Angle mill the heads, intake and do my stage 5 intake mods from plenum to runner. Then do the same to the heads and polish the exhaust. Run larger valves as well. Then stick in a solid flat with a range of 240-250 on a 108 lobe sep. 3500 stall minimum. 4.10 gear. With a 400 tranny.

My heads were stock 360 castings if I would have put a set of 049 or 781 I think it would have woke it up. You will most likely need a dome piston to get some compression. Instead of angle milling the heads I would run a set of aluminum heads.

That's exactly what I told the customer. Anymore in the world of todAys technology and affordability, my personal use wouldn't touch a standard deck bbc with OEM iron heads. Especially most likely going to use peanut heads.
But $&@# it it's winding up going to similiar nhra stock build. With my ability I can work the these heads pretty well. If was a motor for me no less than a 572 with 2 kits and take to 9500 with fuel injection, solid roller, sheet ram and bunch of secret goodies. Oh well. I love new challenges.
