Building a 10,000 RPM SBC
Ok...looking for advice :shock:
I'm thinking about building a high rpm sbc and not sure what cubic inch will live longer. Bigger cubes will make more pony's but might expire sooner. Kinda thinking about a 302 but open to suggestions.
What name brands are best for cranks,rods and pistons for 10,000 rpm and the head size will depend on the cube size. What about induction,single 4bbl or dual quad? I think NOS might be out for this RPM,not?

352, 4.155x3.25. SB2 or GB style wedge heads will work well, or maybe some real good 15˚ (RFD could handle any of the above). Winberg, Callies or Crower for cranks, GRP aluminum rods. JE, Diamond, Mahle, or CP for pistons.

Sooo...I guess,conventional 23 degree heads are not a good thing? I never had anything to do high rpm's before and don't know what the technology is out there. A good bottom end is a must,Dart block and good internals but SB2 heads are high dollar.
Do you have to run alum. rods or are steel beams ok? I know lighter is better but its a short stroke.

No fear these high winding ( d-stroked) smalll block's normally Do not normally last too long..think of it as a Mouse on steriods and Meth...... !!!

It can be done and cheaper than you think, 20 yrs. ago i had a friend (Mengo Hernandez) who had a 1983 Camero X Prostock car weighed 2350lbs. with a Nickens & Brown 288" motor. He ran Lenco 5 speed an came out of the gate at 10,500 rpm every pass. I watched/raced against him for the whole 1989 season. The car would run 8.80's @ 163mph at the beginning of the season, but by the end of the yr. it had slowed to 9. teens. I guess the valve springs were getting tired. what i knew about the car was it was 283 +.030 with Brodix 10 Heads with off set alum rockers, not shaft, Holly tunnel ram with 7.50's double pumpers 13.5 comp. I don't know the cam specs. but it was an alum. rod motor wet sump on GAS.
The only thing i ever saw him break was the Lenco 2nd gear and it came all the way into the car when it broke. It had 1 7/8" to 2" step headers and 4" collectors.
The car would carry the front end about 100ft. and settle down very smooth, not bounce.
I still have it on VHS tape but don't know how to load it on to the net without converting to a CD.

There are a couple 23˚ head that would work, but the expense is up there with the other heads and sometimes more. Some decent cup takeoff SB2.2's would be right at home on a 352, I have a 447 SB2 and a 460 I'm collecting parts for. Stick with aluminum rods at that RPM.

There's a couple good deals on SB2.2 heads on ebay right now, i set clean with TIT valves and PSI springs never damaged for $2000.00 and another set of Joe Gibbs brand new (no valeves or springs) for $2300.00, both are good deals.

I talked to friend about this and he said he still has his old 331 engine from back in the late 80's,I thought he had sold it. Its a tunnel ram,750's,stock GM heads ported to the nuts,big roller 6 something lift,13-1,alum. rods and some kind of steel crank. He pulled 8,500 all the time. Ya its old tech but it might be a base line. I think he said $2,500.00 when he was walking away but now he's gone for the weekend.
