IF you heard them scrape and knew they were not going to work, Why the heck would you go back out the next day and put lug nuts on them and snug them down and spin it again? Also,I am going to assume you will say there were no lug nuts on them the day before when you spun them, to which I ask..
WHO IN THE HELL puts a rim on the rotor and gives it a spin without any lug nuts on? Most people at least start a couple on and run them in because they would never stay flat against the rotor if you didn't....AND IF YOU DID do that, why would you then be pissed at the fact that you heard them rubbing the caliper? That makes no sense at all. You wouldn't get pissed at that point because you wouldn't know for sure they rubbed until the lug nuts were at least finger tight to hold them in place....something don't add up to me...JUST MY OPINION.
