Piston ring tech help!!!
I need a little help here
I am building a 9.5 to 1 383 that howell efi is setting up the efi to run on the street and hopefully for along time. I bought a eagle rotating kit and i think the rings it came with are not so great? Part number 40564cp.030 This is not a race car, just something that should make a reliable 300 hp. What i have now started wondering is what type of ring would be the best to put in.... Is there only one material type referd to as moly? A chrome top ring? Is there a Chromoly ring also? Cast iron? Thanks! Keith |
moly rings are what you may want to use

That looks like a Perfect Circle part number. If so, those are moly rings. Moly ring part numbers start with a 4 and cast ring numbers start with a 5.

That is a perfect circle part number.... but they sell for like 40 bucks at summit... so surely the are not a good moly ring? Or maybe im wrong?

Sounds like a conventional moly ring set if they were only $40.
For more dough you can upgrade to some plasma moly rings. They are around $100-$150 at most parts houses. Thats what I use on any performance build. Speed pro, Childs and Albert etc... |

no such thing as CHORME moly rings Only moly rings . summits moly rings plenty good for a street motor as long as the machine shop did its job right. The only reason for moly rings is breakin time is almost none a chome ring takes some time to seat and seal in the ld days you were supposed to drive the car a certain way for 500 mile. now with moly you can fire it up run it at about 2500 rpm till its get to operating temp cool it down. it should be good to go
