can decide
im wanting to rebuild my 454 and bore it to a 468 but a can't decide whether to keep the stock rods or not. av'e heard that stock will still out last aftermarket
You have answered your own question,... :D
alright so you agree on stock rods then wat about crank and heads (im not going alll out on this motor)
I tought you just wanted to rebuild,..I didnt know you wanted
to hop it up too.....sorry If you have the money,..buy a rotaing assembly eagle /eagle/ srp/je. other wise you could just have the rods checked /resized/ bushed crank checked , cleaned, polished,. and a good set of forged pistons. heads you could just get the exhaust a the next size, with better valve springs,.. |
ok thats what a was planing because a rotating assembly for a big block costs a pretty penny and i aint got too much of that but would that 468 bolt up to a turbo 400 trans
Yes,..you can bolt tranny to the chevys sbc or BBc
powerglide, t-350, t-400 |
thank you alot
If you are going to buy a rotatin asy, get a 4 1/4 stroke and make a 489/496 out of it. And only use a th400 behind it. Will last forever.
well a looked at the rotatio assembly fisrt but the prices are pretty high and i doon't have a very good income because of highschool and college not lettin me get much hours so a think ima have to take the cheap route but thanks for the advice

A stock cast BBC crank and OEM rods can withstand some big Hp, the key is getting a good spin job (internal balance) and using some good ARP rod bolts. Polishing the stock rods beams would be on my list of things to do as well.
NOTE: if you do go with an internal balance you'll have to use a neutral flywheel and balancer. I had a friend of mine years ago that ran 5.80's in the 1/8 running a ron's toilet bowl injected 468 BBC. Granted the car was light, only 2400lbs W/ driver. But it still had all stock internals and a good balance job, I was impressed. Not that I would go that far with stock internals but that's a pretty good testament of how strong those stock BBC bottem ends can be if prepped right. Now if you can swing it, I'd upgrade the cast crank with a OEM steel piece, that is if you can still find one, if so it would still be cheaper than going with a all forged set-up and not as hard on the ole wallet.
