Need Good Head
I thought I may get your attention...lol
I am looking for suggestions for aluminum heads for my BBC and wonder what other people are using. I know if I call companies it would be like asking the waitress how the soup is so I am asking here first. I have a 502 Mark VI BBC rectangular port open chambered heads with 9.25-1compression. I am running a Comp cam roller with a 652 lift on intake and exhaust. Duration is 262. Victor manifold and a 1050 Holly tops it off. I am also using roller rockers, solid roller lifters and comp. guide plates and pushrods. This sits in a early 70's steel body Camaro. As I said I am looking for suggestions as what to look for in a set of aluminum heads. I know that bigger is not always better and the right combination will work best. I am looking forward to your suggestions |

I'm considering AFR 325 with CNC bowl blend & chambers option for my 509. Here's an article how they performed on a very similar engine like yours:
http://www.airflowresearch.com/artic...le131/A-P1.htm If you need more power, more the compression and bigger cam will get you an easy 100+ hp. |
X2 on the compression, With the change to alloy heads & the cam your running I would think that you would be easily be able to raise it to at least 10.3-1 or more & still be ok with premium pumpgas.

I am looking forward to your suggestions there was a joke going around after I threw a pro stock team out of the shop comparing me to the soup nazi, .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihd4G...eature=related In the area you are working, I'd stick to a Dart pro 1 with a good valve job, . small port, .. 310cc with CnC chamber option. No porting just a mild bowl blend and good valve job. Or you could do the Edelbrock Victor Jr based off the same casting design I do my high end race heads from but with the valves relocated to fit a smaller bore. 300cc intake port, fully cnc chamber 110cc, . stainless valves, nextek roller spings for around $2600. Point being I think you need to stick around 300-320 cc, .. use a good quality head casting, . make sure the chamber and piston combo give you the proper compression ( 10:1 or more ) and have a good valve job done. You really won't go wrong if you keep the intake port small and stick to name brand heads, .. don't get tempted by the cheap import junk heads, .. Also look at your exhaust, .. some heads in the range have the exhaust port raised .300", .. and could cause a clearance problem. Check if you have room, raising the exhaust port is good. let me know if you need any more soup. Curtis |
Thanks alot Curtis, I will be calling you soon.
