  • Jesel Belt Drive Jesel Belt Drive
Here’s a JESEL belt drive for a 5.0L small-block Ford. It features a billet cover that utilizes an electric water pump. Timing can be adjusted by loosening four bolts on the cam sprocket, then rotating the sprocket using the timing marks as a guide.
About Jesel:
The JESEL racing belt drive system was originally designed to replace timing chains in NASCAR that were becoming unreliable in 500-mile races. That was 20 years ago. Since then, virtually all Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman truck teams rely on JESEL belt drives to cross the finish line. It wasn’t long before drag racers recognized the advantages, and now virtually all NHRA and IHRA Pro Stock, Super Stock and Comp Eliminator racers run JESEL belt drives. Here’s why:

• Stronger & more durable than chains or gear drives
• Extremely accurate cam timing
• Adjust cam timing ±10 degrees in seconds
(Without removing the water pump)
• Swap cams through the front cover without removing the front cover
• Reduces crankshaft harmonics

The ability to adjust cam timing is a terrific tuning tool at the track. Moving the power band up or down to adjust for track conditions can mean the difference between winning and losing. Being able to quickly test a number of cams on the dyno is also a huge advantage, and the only reasonable way to do it is through the front cover. Are JESEL belt drives streetable? You bet – belts should be replaced every 70,000 miles or two years, depending upon conditions.
